About Me
I'm a passionate traveler with an appreciation for the art and science of travel planning.
I'm currently based in Los Angeles, California but I've lived in a number of places since 2000:
-
Washington, DC
-
New York City
-
Hong Kong
-
Madrid, Spain
-
Singapore
... and travelled to over 60 countries, including solo-backpacking for six months around-the-world.
My philosophy on travel and travel-planning
Travel is actually less about places - and more about people and experiences.
It is about honoring the places you visit by spending some time to interact with locals and experiencing the culture - in an authentic way. This is the stuff that creates impressions that last a lifetime.
Some personal travel highlights include:
-
Searching the Banaue rice terraces in northern Philippines for a character from one of my favorite non-fiction travel books
-
Tipping pints with classmates and locals during Oktoberfest in Munich
-
Witnessing a "famadihana" in Madagascar
-
Catching the Mass Games in Pyongyang, North Korea
-
Witnessing the Northern Lights in the Norwegian Lapland
This is why I travel when:
-
The weather is at its finest
-
People are at their happiest
-
Local culture is on full display
The simple idea is that you are your best self ... when you are experiencing the world at its best.
